Why reduce speeding?

Excessive speed is a major contributory factor in many road collisions where death and serious injury occur. Tackling speeding reduces the number of people killed and seriously injured on our roads.

In 2007, 2,946 people died on the UK roads. That means an average of eight people died every day. In Scotland the total was 255, that's almost one person killed every day.

In 2007, 675 people were killed or injured on Central Scotland’s roads; of these, 122 were seriously injured and 8 were killed.

Although speeding is not the only reason for death and injuries on our roads, according to Professor Stephen G Stradling at Napier University, those who speed are twice as likely to be involved in a collision.

We don’t want to catch you speeding, we want you to slow down and drive within the limit.
