A811 SPEED CAMERAS OPERATING

The Central Scotland Safety Camera Partnership (CSSCP) will, with effect from 1March 2009, be enforcing the speed limits along the A811 Stirling/Dumbarton Road.

The partnership currently operates two mobile camera units at twelve key sites within the Districts of Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling where there are proven incidences of collisions and excessive speed. Over the past few years the partnerships Data Analyst has researched other routes within this area where there is the opportunity of influencing vehicle speed and casualty reduction. Following this research the A811 Stirling/Dumbarton Road has been identified with analysis showing that during the period 2004 to 2008 there were 344 recorded collisions on the route. In late 2008 the partnership installed remote speed monitoring loops at specific locations along the route which has shown an average of 2000 vehicles are exceeding the 60mph speed limit a day, with some traveling at excessive speeds.

Neil MacSporran, Central Scotland Safety Camera Partnership Manager said, "The partnership has identified 7 key sites along the A811 Stirling/Dumbarton Road where enforcement will commence. The sites are located at:

  1. Dumbarton Road about 1 mile west of M9 overbridge
  2. Opposite Gargunnock village
  3. Kippen by pass
  4. Arnprior
  5. Buchlyvie
  6. Between Buchlyvie and junction with A875
  7. Drymen by pass

Although initial enforcement will take place at the key sites, enforcement can take place at any point along the A811 route. By highlighting the A811 route and the key locations, the partnership hope to educate and influence driver behaviour, thereby encouraging all road users to drive within the speed limits. "

Kathleen Grant, Central Scotland Safety Camera Partnership Communications Officer said, "As the A811 route is a new area for detection for the partnership, it is imperative that full advantage is taken at this time to raise awareness of the impending enforcement. Information posters will be issued to local businesses, retail outlets and public places asking that staff, customers and clients be made aware. Bus back adverts will also run on buses which service the villages surrounding the A811. Full information can be viewed on the partnership website at www.centralsafetycameras.co.uk."

Chief Inspector Donald McMillan, head of the Road Policing Unit in Central Scotland Police said, "There is a commitment from Central Scotland Police to work with the Safety Camera Partnership to address the issues of speeding on the A811. We will work closely with the partnership to educate motorists to drive safely within the speed limits. "
