Central Scotland Safety Camera Partnership Manager, Neil MacSporran, said: "With fewer hours of daylight it’s important that all drivers make sure that they use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced; generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres. You can also use front or rear fog lights but you must switch them off when visibility improves. You should use dipped headlights at night in built up areas and in dull daytime weather to ensure that you can be seen.
"Some drivers think it is safe to drive faster at night. It is not. Casualty rates are much higher than during daylight hours due to higher speeds, higher alcohol consumption, tiredness and darkness".
